Recently, I watched an interview with Joseph Campbell in which he describes the moment humans experience the divine. He describes it as when our breath is taken away at the sight of beauty as if we are discovering it for the first time. It made me realize that is the type of experience we all share as children and as adults, discovering simple beauty. This is the experience I am trying to create with my art and toys.
I've been busy the last few weeks with several projects. One favorite I created for my friend's wedding. I made a few other pieces for Halloween.
Here is a slideshow of a wedding gift I made for a very special couple. I reused scrap paper from their invitations, which I had access to when making the invites, for the bride and grooms outfits. I recreated them to almost an exact match. The dress I made to look like the bride's dream dress, which she longed for, but now can have in this piece. It took approximately 5 days of solid work. There is one detail that isn't quite noticeable in the photos, but I incorporated a battery operated tea light to illuminate the automata from with in. It's hidden from the shots because of the frame. The bride and groom, Mr. & Mrs Phillip Gallagher, appreciated and enjoyed all of their gifts, but were delighted to receive this one! I know we all can appreciate it!
